Jimmie Went From Foster to Furever!

This sweet pup is an April 2012 alum of the Shelby Humane Society in Alabama. He was transported via our Shelter Partners program to the New Hampshire Humane Society in Laconia, NH. Great job to Ashley Clark for adopting Jimmie and giving him an awesome home!

Greetings from NH!
Jimmie was transported from the Shelby Humane Society to the NH Humane Society back in April 2012. Jimmie was a very shy and timid pooch. I am an animal caregiver at NHHS and quickly fell in love with this southern boy! I originally brought him home as a foster to socialize him, but knew he was never going back I officially adopted him in August, and Jimmie has made amazing improvements since bringing him home. He gains more confidence every day with some help from his furry “siblings”. Thank you for bringing this handsome fella to NH!

Neptune

He was “Neptune” at Shelby Humane Society but since renamed “Teddy” … and he does look like quite the cuddly teddy bear! This sweet dog is a June 2012 alum who was transported to the New Hampshire Humane Society in Laconia, NH.

He was then adopted by the Staples family who simply fell in love with him!

Neptune, now “Teddy”, enjoys the New Hampshire countryside.

“Teddy” is doing fantastic! We love him immensely and he is already house broken and knows many commands and some tricks, too. We are so grateful for him and the opportunity we had to adopt him from your facility. (Our first appointment was with Dr. MacDonald which was a great experience.) The attached photo is Teddy with his new “brothers” Korben, Ashton, and Logan. Also, Teddy at his current weight 42 lbs. The Dr. says this is his full weight – he’s a mid-sized dog.

Sparkle Gets Feline Siblings

Sparkle is a Shelby Humane Society alum who was transported via Shelter Partners to the New Hampshire Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Stratham, NH and adopted by Jane Sanders.

Sparkle is doing great! She’s getting along well with the cats and has been all around NH and eastern MA. She loves riding in the truck and is very patient when I need to go to work. She’s still not sure of my one-eyed “kitten” (he’s as big as she is and a pest), but all I need to do is say, “No” and she leaves him alone. George came out from under the bed purring when I first brought her into the house. They are great friends already, mostly because he doesn’t bother her. She is perfect in the house, too! Thank you again for all your help in putting us together!!

Jaymes is Living the Good Life

Jaymes is an October 2012 alum of the Shelby Humane Society who was transported to the New Hampshire Humane Society in Laconia, NH. Here he is when he was brought into SHS:

This little cutie was adopted by Kristen Allain, and her son selected this photo of Jaymes to share with us!

This is Jaymes and he is our little love bug, here he is smiling, my son picked this picture to share with you in response to your post about the rescues from Alabama. We are so grateful having Jaymes in our lives and he is doing phenomenal.

He has warmed not only our hearts but so many others!!! He is just the sweetest puppy ever!!! Thank you to you and all your staff for all you do day in and day out. It truly makes a difference, from our home to all of yours Merry Christmas!!!!

Liesl (formerly Chanel) Gets New Siblings

Liesl (formerly known as “Chanel”) is an SHS alum who found a wonderful home with Heidi Cogean in New Hampshire after being transported there via our Shelter Partners program. Here is her intake photo at our shelter in Alabama:

Heidi already had two Dachshunds, named Hansel and Gretel, who were bonded shortly after birth. When Hansel died at age 13 1/2, Gretel was despondent and stopped eating.
That’s when the veterinarian suggested that she find a friend for Gretel.

I adopted Liesl from SHS and on the third night in her forever home, Gretel pawed Liesl’s crate and she snuggled in right next to Liesl. Liesl is almost 2 now and is so full of energy that Gretel gets tired. So, Margo (age 10, formerly known as Margie) needed a home. All American Dachshund Rescue arranged the transport and now the 3 girls are loving being sisters. Mommy is soo lucky to have so much doggie love in the house. Thanks SHS and AADR!

[Fancy] has adjusted quite well, and is wonderful with our seven year old son. It has taken her a little while to adjust to the snow, but she was out rolling around in it this morning! She is loved and cared for and quite comfortable here in central New Hampshire.

Willie Settles into Maine

Willie is a December 2012 alum of the Shelby Humane Society who was transported to the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society in Lewiston, ME. He was quickly scooped up by Stephanie Bigelow and her family!

We have only had him for a little over a day and he is a total part of our family. Thank-you for being a part of us finding him!!!

Since Sunday, we have gotten 18″ of snow…your little southern boy loves to bound through it!

Ziggy Became a Mountaineer

Ziggy is a March 2012 alumnus of the Shelby Humane Society. He was transported to the New Hampshire Humane Society in Laconia, NH and then adopted by Tom and Colleen Jarvela. Since then, Ziggy has become quite the mountaineer as you’ll see in his story below … Enjoy!

We wanted to write and give you an update on how Ziggy has been doing since we adopted him 2 months ago. He has been very well behaved, has been learning quickly, but still has room for improvement.

He has quickly adapted to our active life styles and has been going on daily runs and walks with us. Every weekend is filled with hiking and other dogs to play with. He just recently finished hiking all of the mountains in the Belknap range and will be receiving his patch soon. The next goal is for him to hike all of the 4,000′ peaks in the state. He is well on his way after completing Mt. Moriah yesterday. This was his 5th peak of the 48 total 4,000′ footers.

These Sweet Faces Answer Questions About Our Furry Faces

Inga Clum, a member of the Animal League of Birmingham, recently asked her first grade class at Inverness Elementary School about Shelby Humane Society and the Shelter Partners Program. While the children definitely have a lot to learn about geography, we find it encouraging that they are so knowledgeable about the important role pets have in our lives! Perhaps someday with their help, we will be able to announce that an even larger number of dogs have been saved through the Shelter Partners Program.

Where is New England?

How do dogs get to New England?
By plane, train or a company jet drops them off.

How many dogs have found homes this way?

Why are pets important?
When people are blind they help them.
My dog is funny and makes me laugh.
If a child is hurt and an adult isn’t there then a pet can help them.
He has a sense of smell and can help people who are lost.
Dogs swim and save kids who can’t swim.
If no one in your family can play with you then a dog can play.
They are special and are part of your family.
They are smart and they can help.
I love her and walk her and she’s my friend.
If something is stolen a dog can bark.

What do pets at Shelby Humane Society want for Christmas?
A bone to play with and some friends.
A squeaky ball to throw and bounce.
A doggie house to sleep in if it is raining.
A new home and a chew toy.
